ಎಲ್ಲರ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್!

 ಎಲ್ಲರ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್! ಹಾಗೆಂದರೇನು? ನಾವು ಶಂಕರ ಭಟ್ಟರ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಇದ್ಯಾವುದಿದು ಎಲ್ಲರ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್? ಅದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವ ಮೊದಲು ಈ "Uncleftish Beholding" ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಬಂಧದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿ: 

For most of its being, mankind did not know what things are made of, but could only guess. With the growth of worldken, we began to learn, and today we have a beholding of stuff and work that watching bears out, both in the workstead and in daily life.

The underlying kinds of stuff are the firststuffs, which link together in sundry ways to give rise to the rest. Formerly we knew of ninety-two firststuffs, from waterstuff, the lightest and barest, to ymirstuff, the heaviest. 

ಮೊದಲ ವಾಕ್ಯವನ್ನೇನೋ ಓದಿದೆವು. ಆಮೇಲಿನದ್ದು ಬಂದಾಗ, "ಆದದ್ದಾಗಲಿ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಆ ಭಗವಂತನ ಇಚ್ಛೆ ಎಂದು ಧೈರ್ಯ ಮಾಡಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋದೆವು" ಎಂದಿರಾ? ವಿಷಯ ಏನೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿಬಿಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಇವು ಪೌಲ್ ಆಂಡರ್ಸನ್ ಎಂಬ ಸೈನ್ಸ್ ಫಿಕ್ಷನ್ ಲೇಖಕ ಬರೆದ ತಮಾಷೆಯ ಪ್ರಬಂಧವೊಂದರ ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲುಗಳು. ಬೇರೆ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಪದಗಳು ಮಿಶ್ರವಾಗದ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿಂದ ಎರವಲಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿರದ, ಶುದ್ಧವಾದ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ಅಚ್ಚಗನ್ನಡ ಅನ್ನಬಹುದಾದರೆ, Latin, French, Greek ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಪದಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷನ್ನು ಅಚ್ಚ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದೇನೋ. ಶಂಕರ ಭಟ್ಟರು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿಂದ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿರುವ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬರೆಯುವ ಸಾಹಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೋ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಲ್ಯಾಟಿನ್, ಗ್ರೀಕ್, ಫ್ರೆಂಚ್ ಮೂಲಗಳಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬರೆದರೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಹೇಗೆ ಕಂಡೀತು ಎಂದು ನೋಡುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. 

Uncleftish Beholding ಎಂದರೇನು? ಹಾಗೆಂದರೆ Atomic theory! ಹೇಗೆಂದರೆ, ಲ್ಯಾಟಿನ್ನಿನ atomusನಿಂದ atom ಬಂದಿದೆ, ಅದನ್ನು ಬಿಡಬೇಕು, ಗ್ರೀಕಿನ "Theoros"ನಿಂದ theory ಬಂದಿದೆ, ಅದನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ, cleft ಅಂದರೆ ತುಂಡುಮಾಡುವುದು, Uncleftish ಎಂದರೆ ತುಂಡುಮಾಡಲಾಗದ, ಹೀಗೆ! 

ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಪದಗಳ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷೇತರ ಮೂಲಗಳ ಪದಗಳಿಂದ ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಹೀಗೆ ಕೊಡಬಹುದು:  being = existence, worldken = physics, beholding = theory, workstead = workplace, stuff = matter, firststuff = Element, waterstuff = Hydrogen, Barest = Simplest, ymirstuff = Uranium       

ಹೀಗೆಯೇ forward bernstonish lading = positive electric charge, ownship" = property ಎಂದರ್ಥ. "Nor are stuff and work unakin. Rather, they are groundwise the same, and one can be shifted into the other. The kinship between them is that work is like unto weight manifolded by the fourside of the haste of light." ಎಂಬುದು ಅಚ್ಚ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷಿನಲ್ಲಿ E = mc² ಎನ್ನುವ ವಿಧಾನ!
